• The Twins signed righthander Jared Burton to a two-year extension Thursday. The setup man will make $2.05 million next year and $3.25 million in 2014. The deal has a club option for $3.6 million, with a buyout of $200,000, for 2015.

"Jared has been an ideal fit for our ballclub since the day he signed with us," Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said in a statement. "He proved to be a reliable reliever for us and has helped stabilize the back end of our bullpen."

Burton, 31, went 3-2 with five saves in nine opportunities, a 2.18 ERA, 16 walks and 55 strikeouts in 64 appearances for the Twins in 2012. He has a career record of 13-5 with five saves and a 3.08 ERA.

• The Twins ended up adding three pitchers when they selected righthander Ryan Pressly with the fourth pick of the Rule 5 draft.

Pressly, from the Red Sox organization, is transitioning to the bullpen and showed a spike in velocity this past season while in Class AA and in the Arizona Fall League. His fastball reaches 95 miles per hour to go with a power curve.

Pressly, 23, went 7-5 with a 5.38 ERA in 34 games (12 starts) between Class A Salem and Class AA Portland.

• The Twins selected third baseman Mark Soboleweski in the minor league phase of the draft. Sobolewski, 25, batted .249 with 20 home runs and 59 RBI in 117 games between Class AA New Hampshire and Class AAA Las Vegas last season.
