6 Twins to wear No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson

Last update: April 15, 2008 - 12:00 PM

Six members of the Minnesota Twins will don the jersey number of Jackie Robinson for tonight's game in Detroit to honor the man who broke the color barrier in major league baseball 61 years ago today.

The six Twins who will wear No. 42 today, and only today this season, are: players Matt Guerrier, Livan Hernandez, Craig Monroe, Denar Span and Delmon Young, along with first base coach Jerry White.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Robinson's feat, major league baseball retired his number. For a second consecutive year, that retirement is suspended on April 15, allowing players and coaches on all teams the chance to tip their hat to the Hall of Fame Brooklyn Dodger.
