• KANSAS CITY 5, SEATTLE 1: Zack Greinke gave up five hits for his third career complete game, Billy Butler and Miguel Olivo homered in a three-run second inning and the Royals beat the host Mariners to open a seven-game road trip. Greinke joined teammate Brian Bannister with his third victory, though his ERA climbed from 0.60 to 0.75. The righthander was efficient, striking out four and inducing three double plays while facing only three batters more than the minimum.
• BOSTON 6, CLEVELAND 4: Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer — No. 493 of his career — and the visiting Red Sox rallied for three runs in the ninth inning against Indians closer Joe Borowski in a stunning rerun of last October's AL championship series. Ramirez's shot to left off Borowski was only the latest Red Sox comeback against the Indians. Last fall, Boston rallied from a 3-1 ALCS deficit to beat Cleveland and advance to the World Series.
• OAKLAND 2, CHICAGO 1: Rookie Greg Smith outpitched Mark Buehrle for his first major league victory, and Kurt Suzuki went 4-for-4 as the Athletics beat the host White Sox for their eighth victory in 10 games. Smith gave up one run and six hits over seven innings on another cold night at U.S. Cellular Field.
• BALTIMORE 4, TORONTO 3: Kevin Millar homered and drove in three runs to back a fine pitching performance by Matt Albers, and the host Orioles beat the Blue Jays. Adam Jones tied a career high with three hits for the Orioles, who won their sixth consecutive home game and broke a first-place tie with Toronto in the AL East.
• LOS ANGELES 7, TEXAS 4: Ervin Santana rebounded from a three-run first to pitch seven strong innings, Mike Napoli homered and the Angels handed the Rangers their fourth consecutive loss, winning in Arlington, Texas.
Pirates top Dodgers with ninth-inning rally
• PITTSBURGH 6, LOS ANGELES 4: Nate McLouth hit a three-run homer off All-Star closer Takashi Saito with two outs in the ninth inning to extend his season-opening hitting streak to 13 games, and the Pirates beat the stunned Dodgers for its fourth consecutive victory.
• SAN FRANCISCO 5, ARIZONA 4: Randy Johnson had a hard time finding the strike zone in his season debut, eight months after back surgery. Still, the host Giants didn't get many good swings against him. Johnson did not allow an earned run in five innings, settling down to finish with seven strikeouts and four walks before San Francisco rallied against the Diamondbacks bullpen.
• Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain left the team after his father collapsed at home in Nebraska, and the pitcher was placed on the bereavement list. Harlan Chamberlain was hospitalized Monday at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
"He is currently in critical but stable condition," Joba Chamberlain said in a statement released by the team.
Harlan Chamberlain had polio when he was 9 months old and uses a motorized scooter. He is deaf in one ear and without full use of his left arm.
• The 30 major league teams and the sport's league office will combine to sponsor a Jackie Robinson Foundation scholar for each club from 2009 to 2011. The pledge of $1.2 million announced Monday raises the foundation's support from MLB and its teams to more than $10 million since 1996, the commissioner's office said.
