Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Postgame: The battle to avoid last place continues

CLEVELAND -- The Twins and Indians are tied for last place, at 62-88, after finishing their season series Thursday.

The Twins finished in the AL Central basement last year, so it’s not like it’s unchartered territory. But if it happens this year, it would mean finishing behind an Indians team that is currently 18-47 since the All-Star break.

“We’re just trying to go out there and win series,” Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe said. “Obviously, we don’t want to end up in last place, but we don’t want to be wherever we’re at. Regardless if we’re in last or fourth, that’s not a successful season for us. The only thing we can do is continue to fight.”

A quick look at each team’s remaining schedule:

TWINS: @ Tigers (3), vs. Yankees (3), vs. Tigers (3), @ Blue Jays (3)

INDIANS: @ Royals (3), @ White Sox (3), vs. Royals (3), vs. White Sox (3)
