Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Winless in 17 career MLB starts, Hendriks tries again tonight

Posted by: Phil Miller under Twins game coverage Updated: September 19, 2012 - 4:42 PM

CLEVELAND -- Liam Hendriks probably will get three more starts this year, giving him three more chances to get that elusive first major league win.

Including four starts last year, Hendriks is 0-9 with a 6.15 ERA in 17 career starts. He has had some close calls, including his 1-0 complete game loss to Felix Hernandez and the Mariners on Aug. 27. And he has had some missed chances, including the big leads he blew in his next two starts after that Seattle outing.

On Wednesday night, Hendriks will try again, hoping to pull the Twins above Cleveland in the standings.

Update: Chris Herrmann will be making his first major league start behind the plate, catching Hendriks.

Update: Darin Mastroianni has a torn tendon in the middle finger of his left hand will be limited to pinch-running duty over the final 14 games.

Chris Parmelee will fly home to California on Thursday to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. He is scheduled to return on Monday for the start of the Yankees series. Manager Ron Gardenhire said he wanted to give Parmelee a chance to play before he left, so Ben Revere is getting a night off.
