TWINS UPDATE

Walters hasn't pitched for the Twins since June 13, when he left a start against the Phillies because of shoulder problems that sidelined him for two months. ... Diamond will make his first start since serving a six-game suspension for throwing near the head of Texas' Josh Hamilton on Aug. 23. Diamond, who last pitched Tuesday against Seattle, is 0-2 against the White Sox but has a 3.38 ERA against them. ... The Twins are 3-9 against the White Sox, their worst record against any division opponent. ... Jamey Carroll went 5-for-8 over the weekend at Kansas City. ... Josh Willingham is 0-for-15 in his career against Peavy.

WHITE SOX UPDATE

Chicago went into the weekend with a three-game lead in the division, only to get swept by the Tigers and fall into a tie with Detroit. ... Quintana, like the Twins' Deduno, has kicked around a little before finding a home as a six-year free agent. "I tell you what, they're out there, and there's no better example than Quintana with the White Sox," Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said. "It's the same situation. He's given them innings this year." ... Santiago began the year as Chicago's closer but was sent to the minors and stretched out. A former 30th-round pick, Santiago has appeared in 38 major league games but never as a starter.
