FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - Twins catcher Joe Mauer continued his torrid spring Tuesday in a 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Mauer walked in his first plate appearance before drilling a two-run, opposite-field homer off Orioles starter Matt Albers in the third inning.
Mauer lined a run-scoring single to center field in the fifth, raising his average to .458.
He also threw out Jay Payton trying to steal third base with a perfect throw in the fourth.
After batting .347 to win the American League batting title in 2006, Mauer slipped to .293 last year, when injuries limited him to 109 games.
"He's feeling really good, and he's been able to do a lot more work on his swing, where his legs aren't bothering him," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
