Before the season started, the Twins hoped these five pitchers would make up their starting rotation. What happened since then, and where are they now? (2012 salary in parentheses)

Scott Baker ($6.5 million): Experienced elbow problems in spring training and needed Tommy John surgery, costing him the season.

Francisco Liriano ($5.5 million): Went 3-10 with a 5.31 ERA through late July, when the impending free agent was traded to White Sox. He is 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA for Chicago.

Carl Pavano ($8.5 million): Went 2-5 with a 6.00 ERA before going on the disabled list June 1; he has yet to return from his shoulder injury.

Nick Blackburn ($4.75 million): Went 4-9 with a 7.39 ERA before he was taken off 40-man roster and sent to Class AAA Rochester on Monday.

Jason Marquis ($3 million): Was 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA before being released in May; picked up by the Padres, where he is 6-7 with a 4.08 ERA.
