TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 4-5 against the Tigers this season; they split four games in Detroit when the teams last met, July 2-5. ... One reliever making a good impression is righthander Casey Fien, who is with his fifth organization. Fien has given up only two earned runs in 15 1/3 innings since being called up July 5. "He's kind of a quiet kid with pretty good stuff,'' Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. ... Ryan Doumit, Jamey Carroll and Josh Willingham are the only Twins to have faced Sanchez, combining to go 0-for-12 against him.

TIGERS UPDATE

Before throwing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning Saturday, Tigers lefthanded reliever Phil Coke had a 10.50 ERA over this previous seven outings. Not good news before a series with the Twins and their lefthanded hitters. ... There's even more concern about setup man Joaquin Benoit, who has given up back-to-back homers in each of his past two appearances. ... Detroit entered Sunday batting .330 with 14 homers and 64 runs scored in 10 August games.
