FORT MYERS, FLA. - There were a couple of sights during a 7-2 split-squad victory over Boston on Friday that Twins fans wouldn't mind seeing at least 30 times this year.
Francisco Liriano threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his first start vs. a major league opponent since September 2006. After missing 2007 because of reconstructive elbow surgery, he gave up two hits and struck out Manny Ramirez with a changeup.
First baseman Justin Morneau hit his first home run of the spring, a two-run shot to right off Clay Buchholz in the first that powered through a brisk wind blowing in and toward left field.
Craig Monroe followed Morneau with a solo homer as the Twins took a 3-0 lead.

Twins (ss) 4, Toronto 0DUNEDIN, FLA. - After a first-inning mound visit by manager Ron Gardenhire, Twins starter Glen Perkins retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced in a 4-0 split-squad victory over the Blue Jays.
Gardenhire scolded Perkins for not backing up third base when Gregg Zaun singled, putting runners at first and second in the Toronto first.
"Guys make mistakes," Perkins said. "And that's the last time I'll make that one, for sure."
Delmon Young had a run-scoring single and Randy Ruiz hit his second homer of the spring as the Twins outhit Toronto 11-5.
"We had good things happen today," Gardenhire said. "That was a crisp, fun ballgame."

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
