Struggling Hernandez not worried

Last update: March 6, 2008 - 7:56 PM

FORT MYERS, FLA. -- Righthander Livan Hernandez gave up 15 earned runs in 101/3 innings for a 13.06 ERA last spring training. He went on to go 11-14 with a 4.93 ERA for Arizona.

It looks as if he's traveling on the same path this spring.

Hernandez lacked control and was hit hard during the Twins' 8-7 victory over Baltimore on Thursday. He gave up five earned runs over three innings on 10 hits, including a two-run homer by Mike Costanza in the third.

Hernandez has a 10.80 ERA after two outings but wasn't concerned.

"I was working with the sinker outside, and it was up and down and in the middle,'' Hernandez said. "Can't do nothing about it. Got to go work in the bullpen and try to fix it.''

The Twins trailed 7-6 in the eighth before Jon Knott and Matt Macri gave them the lead with run-scoring singles.

Delmon Young was 3-for-3 with two RBI and is batting .615.
