La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
The Morneau family expansion project is nearing completion. Morneau has left the team to return to the Twin Cities to be with his wife, Krista, who is about to deliver the couple's second child. Best of luck to the family.
Chris Parmelee has been recalled from Class AAA Rochester, where he was batting .302 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 28 games. He can remain with the club for three games, according to league's new paternity leave policy. Parmelee will join the club in time for tonight's game against the Royals.
Tony Oliva received a standing ovation from about 250 fans who showed up for his discussion at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Olivia is going to throw out the first pitch tonight before the Twins play the Royals.
Will check back later with the Royals lineup and updates!
Updates: Parmelee landed at the airport around 3:30 p.m. and was headed to the ballpark as of this writing.
Plouffe can be used as an emergency defensive replacement, but can not swing a bat yet.
The Twins are wearing St. Paul Gophers unis as part of a salute to the Negro Leagues tonight. They are dark and they look heavy. They are the same uniforms they wore two years ago when they played at Cleveland and faced righthander Fausto Carmona....er, Roberto Hernandez.
