TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 6-3 against the Royals this year. ... Trevor Plouffe extended his career-long hitting streak to 17 games on Thursday. It's the longest hitting streak for the Twins since Torii Hunter hit in 23 in a row in 2007. ... Justin Morneau, who was batting .096 against lefthanded pitchers in early July, is 7-for-20 (.350) against lefties in his past eight games. ... Ben Revere is 20-for-25 in stolen base attempts.

ROYALS UPDATE

Kansas City is in its annual free fall, at 4-13 in its past 17 games, but still has a 1 1/2-game lead over the Twins for fourth place. ... First baseman Eric Hosmer, who looked so promising last year as a rookie, is batting .160 with 16 strikeouts since July 1. ... The weather cooled off nicely in Kansas City for the All-Star Game, but the forecasted high temperatures the next three days are 99, 101 and 104 degrees.
