Switch it up for interleague play

When the Astros move to the AL next year, giving each league 15 teams, interleague play will become a constant. One way to spice up interleague play would be to let teams use a DH in NL parks but not in AL parks. AL fans could see the added strategy involved when pitchers are part of the batting order and vice versa. "I like that idea," Commissioner Bud Selig said.

'Surreal' success for Trout

Angels center fielder Mike Trout is the runaway favorite for AL Rookie of the Year, and he's an MVP candidate, too. In the All-Star Game, he lined R.A. Dickey's knuckleball for a single, then walked against Cincinnati flamethrower Aroldis Chapman. Asked if this success surprises him at age 20, Trout said, "You've got to be confident in your abilities, but it is surreal a little bit."

Rangers stocked

The Rangers had a team-record eight All-Stars, and they are loaded in the minors, too. Baseball America ranks Class AA shortstop Jurickson Profar as the sport's No. 2 prospect, with Class AA third baseman Mike Olt at No. 11. Both dazzled in the Futures Game, and both could be trade chips since the Rangers have All-Stars at shortstop (Elvis Andrus) and third base (Adrian Beltre). Olt or Profar could help the Rangers land Cole Hamels, Zack Greinke or Justin Upton.
