Rainy day complicates plan for Twins pitchers

Last update: March 4, 2008 - 7:23 PM

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. - The Twins are scrambling to adjust their pitching schedule following the rainout of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The game was called with one out in the fifth with the Twins leading 3-0.

Righthander Kevin Slowey will start as scheduled today against the Yankees in Tampa, but relievers Pat Neshek and Dennys Reyes -- who were affected by the rainout -- will be added to today's list of pitchers.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire pointed toward Friday's split-squad games as a good chance to get his pitchers back on line.

"We're also talking to Boston about another B-game," Gardenhire said.

Before the rains came, Twins hitters sprayed hits all over Progress Energy Park.

Denard Span went 2-for-2 with a bouncing double down the right field line and a line single to left.

The Twins scored all their runs in the fourth on an RBI single to right by Mike Redmond, an RBI infield single by Jason Kubel and a RBI groundout by Howie Clark.

The stats, of course, don't count. But the pitch counts accumulate on Boof Bonser's right arm. He threw three shutout innings Tuesday and has five scoreless innings this spring.
