Basak's HR lifts Twins in 10 innings

Last update: March 3, 2008 - 7:25 PM

FORT MYERS, FLA. - Chris Basak hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Twins an 8-6 victory Monday over the Cincinnati Reds.

Basak, a nine-year professional who got his first taste of the big leagues last year when he played five games for the Yankees, is competing for an infield spot with the Twins this year.

Basak's homer came one inning after Randy Ruiz had tied the score with a two-run homer to center.

Both players are considered long shots to make the Twins' Opening Day roster, but they helped lift the team's Grapefruit League record to 2-3.

"When that happens, it's definitely a lot of fun," Basak said.
