Twins hitting goes missing again in loss to Red Sox

Last update: February 29, 2008 - 10:06 PM

FORT MYERS, FLA. - Two days into exhibition play, the Twins and Boston Red Sox have picked up right where they left off last year.

The Twins can't get going offensively, and the Red Sox can't be stopped.

Kevin Youkilis and Jason Varitek hit back-to-back home runs off Kevin Slowey in the fourth inning, and Boston defeated the Twins 8-3 on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Twins, who lost 6-1 to Cincinnati on Thursday, finally scored this time when Brian Buscher homered leading off the sixth inning.

That was the Twins' first extra-base hit in two games.

Meanwhile, the defending World Series champions keep rolling.

After crushing Boston College 24-0 and Northeastern 15-0 on Thursday, the Red Sox have now outscored their opponents 47-3.

Twins starter Boof Bonser was one of their few bright spots, as he held the Red Sox to one hit in two innings pitched.

The Twins were trailing 8-1 until Jeff Christy hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth.

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
