Livan Hernandez at a glance

Last update: February 12, 2008 - 11:09 PM

Born: Feb. 20, 1975 in Villa Clara, Cuba.

Throws: Right

2007: He went 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA for Arizona.

Career: He is 134-128 in 12 seasons with a 4.25 ERA, all in the National League.

Family ties: He is the half-brother of Mets pitcher Orlando (El Duque) Hernandez.

Honors: A two-time All-Star (2004, 2005). Named MVP of the 1997 NLCS and World Series for Florida.

Fast fact: Since 2000, he has more innings pitched (1,837 2/3) and complete games (32) than any pitcher in baseball.

A good sign because: The price was right. It's a one-year deal for only $5 million guaranteed, with up to $2 million in incentives.

Biggest concerns: He led the National League in hits allowed (247) and was second in home runs allowed (34) last year. His strikeouts-to-walks ratio was 3.12 in 2003 and dropped to 1.13 last year.
