How have Twins drafted compared to other teams?

To see how well the Twins have drafted compared to other teams, the Star Tribune examined every major league roster and noted how teams acquired their top 18 to 20 impact players, studying who drafted them -- in which round and with which pick -- or who signed them originally if they went undrafted. Note that this chart includes only draft-eligible players (United States, Canada and Puerto Rico); it doesn't include players who were signed out of countries such as the Dominican Republic, Venezuela or Japan, among others.

We used baseball-reference.com's WAR (wins above replacement) statistic as a measuring stick. This stat shows how many wins each player is worth above the production a team could expect from someone readily available at Class AAA. This chart shows how many active players with a career WAR above 15.0-- essentially, today's most established stars -- each team drafted.

Since no player drafted over the past five years made the cut, we listed the average grade Baseball America gave each team for the drafts from 2007 to 2010 in this year's "Prospect Handbook," along with the publication's most recent organizational talent rankings.
