SEATTLE -- The Twins placed Justin Morneau on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, with the slugger still uncomfortable with a sore left wrist that forced him out of a game Monday.
Morneau tried to take some swings in the cage this afternoon, but said his sore wrist has not improved at all.
"Give it a little more time and hopefully let it calm down to where I can swing normally and be productive," Morneau said.
Morneau said he expects to be checked out by Twins specialist Dr. Tom Varecka when the team returns from its West Coast road trip.
The Twins will backdate the move to Monday, when he left a game against the Angels after two at-bats. After the game, he expressed concern about the wrist, which he had operated on in October. He returned to the Twin Cities on Tuesday for a magnetic resonance imaging exam, which found no structural damage, and he returned to the team Wednesday.
But he did not play in either that game -- Jered Weaver's no-hitter for the Angels -- or in the Twins' 3-2 victory over Seattle on Friday night. Before Friday's game, he remained in workout clothes as the rest of the team prepared to play.
"It's up to him to let us know when he can play," acting manager Scott Ullger said at the time.
It was not known who from the minors would be added to the roster to take Morneau's place. The 2006 American League MVP is hitting .230 with four home runs and nine RBI this season.
