FIVE STARTS TO REMEMBER

SEPT. 10, 2003 • Twins 4, Chicago White Sox 1

The Twins visited the White Sox for a four-game series tied with them for the division lead, only to lose the first two. In the third game, Santana held Chicago to six hits and one run in 61/3 innings. The Twins soon won 11 games in a row and won the Central going away.

AUG. 1, 2004 • Twins 4, Boston 3

In a showdown with Pedro Martinez, Santana went eight innings, giving up three runs on two hits and striking out 12, winning his third decision in a row in what became 13 consecutive victories. Martinez gave up seven hits in seven innings and struck out 11.

AUG. 23, 2005 • Twins 1, Chicago White Sox 0

Trying to stay in contention in the AL Central, Santana was locked up against righthander Freddy Garcia. Santana gave up three hits in eight innings while striking out eight, and the Twins -- no-hit into the eighth inning --broke through with a Jacque Jones solo home run.

JUNE 13, 2006 • Twins 5, Boston 2

Though most remembered for how it ended -- Jason Kubel's grand slam in the 12th inning -- this game began as a pitchers' duel between Santana and Curt Schilling. Santana fanned 13 in eight innings but was matched by Schilling, with both giving up solo homers in the seventh.

AUG. 19, 2007 • Twins 1, Texas 0

Santana struck out a career-high 17 batters, a Twins single-game record, over eight innings, making the most of a lone run provided on a Michael Cuddyer home run. Santana gave up only two hits while striking out the side three times, including his last two innings.
