Power rankings, the Twins and some Nishioka numbers from Rochester

Posted by: Howard Sinker Updated: April 16, 2012 - 12:09 PM

No matter where you look around the web, the Twins are being ranked in major league baseball's power rankings just about where you'd expected for a team that's 2-8 and struggling with its offense, pitching and defense.

In the latest ESPN rankings, the Twins dropped this week from 26th to 29th -- ahead of San Diego. "The Twins' offense will only go as far as Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau can take it. Up to this point, that's been nowhere," is the accompanying comment.

Bleacher Report has the Twins ranked dead last, with San Diego just ahead of them.

The rankings on canada.com have the Twins 13th, but does the Twins the favor of ranking the teams by league.-- so they're ahead of Seattle: "Josh Willingham has been a monster so far, but the starting rotation and a good portion of the bullpen, have been weak."

Finally, we're not sure who "Mitch" is, but he minces no words on the sportschatplace.com web site in judging the Twins as the worst team in the majors right now: "The Twins stunk it up last season and they stink again."

And now to Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Just like Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau with the Twins, Nishioka has played in every game this season at Class AAA Rochester. Unfortunately for the Twins, the similarity doesn't end there. Nishioka is batting .128 for the Red Wings, with five singles and no RBI in 39 at-bats.

On the bright side? Well, Drew Butera is batting .333.
