Deal keeps Twins, Guerrier out of salary arbitration

Last update: January 24, 2008 - 9:35 PM

The Twins and righthander Matt Guerrier have reached agreement on a one-year, $950,000 contract that will avoid salary arbitration.

Guerrier, who made $407,500 last year, had filed for a 2008 salary of $1.15 million while the Twins offered $750,000, so the sides settled at the midpoint.

"Matt Guerrier has been a good pitcher for us the past three years," Twins GM Bill Smith said. "We are glad we were able to get this deal done."

That leaves outfielder Michael Cuddyer as the Twins' only arbitration-eligible player. Cuddyer, who made $3.75 million last year, filed for $6.2 million while the Twins filed for $4.7 million.

The Twins also signed minor leaguers Bobby Korecky, Jose Mijares, Matt Macri, Matt Tolbert, Denard Span and Jason Pridie to one-year deals.
