Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Ron Gardenhire tells Iowa audience his opening day (for now) lineup

Per a tweet from new Twins radio guy Cory Provus, skipper Ron Gardenhire was asked during a stop today in Mason City, Iowa, about the team's starting nine. Gardy obliged with an answer, so consider this your opening day lineup for the Twins as of now -- which obviously takes best-case health scenarios and doesn't factor in any spring training injuries/surprises:

1) Span, CF

2) Carroll, SS

3) Mauer, C

4) Morneau, 1B

5) Willingham, RF

6) Doumit, DH

7) Valencia, 3B

8) Casilla, 2B

9) Revere, LF

SP: Pavano

There aren't any real surprises there, but it does get the wheels turning to see it laid out like that. It still seems a little silly to align the three outfielders that way; Span in right, Revere in center, Willingham in left seems more efficient. But the left-right hitting balance and the speed turnover from the bottom of the order to the top seem to make sense. Your thoughts in the comments -- you know, other than that it looks way better with Mauer and Morneau than anyone else in those 3-4 spots.

Remember, pitchers and catchers can report in fewer than two weeks -- or fewer than a week, if they are from Oakland or Seattle.
