Kent Hrbek will become the eighth person associated with the Twins franchise to have his likeness immortalized in a bronze statue outside of Target Field.

Hrbek's response to such an honor?

"I asked [club President] Dave St. Peter if it will have me hold a bat in one hand and a beer in the other," he said.

The statue will be erected outside Gate 14, the gate that bears Hrbek's retired number. It's also where the bar named after Hrbek is located.

The Bloomington native played his entire 14-year career with the Twins, including the championship teams of 1987 and 1991. He said he was recently told by St. Peter that his statue will be unveiled this summer, and Hrbek, a career .282 hitter with 293 home runs, considers it a tremendous honor.

But anyone who has come across Hrbek knows he has an unique way of expressing his appreciation.

"It's a great way for the pigeons to show their love for me," he said.

The current bronze statues are of Harmon Killebrew, Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, former owner Calvin Griffith and late owner Carl Pohlad and his wife, Eloise. The late Griffith would have turned 100 years old on Thursday.
