TWINS UPDATE

The Twins led the majors with a .285 batting average with runners in scoring position last year. This year they are 13th, at .262. ... First baseman Justin Morneau, dealing with mild concussion symptoms, has been working out some in recent days, but manager Ron Gardenhire said Morneau is not close to being ready for game action. Morneau likely would have to take live batting practice and go through pregame workouts before the Twins would consider using him. ... Jason Kubel is batting only .233 against the White Sox this season but has four homers and 10 RBI in nine games against them. ... Tsuyoshi Nishioka is batting .310 against the White Sox this season.

WHITE SOX UPDATE

Outfielder Carlos Quentin can come off the disabled list Monday, but he is still recovering from a left shoulder injury. He's hitting off flip tosses for now and could miss the series. ... The Twins hammered Peavy for six first-inning runs Wednesday and get another crack Tuesday. Manager Ozzie Guillen, mindful of how Peavy has fought through injuries since joining Chicago, said he will consider shutting Peavy down if the White Sox fall out of contention. They appear close to that after giving up 35 runs in three games as first-place Detroit swept its weekend series. ... General Manager Kenny Williams and hitting coach Greg Walker recently had a shouting match. The spat apparently was sparked by concerns about Gordon Beckham's struggles.
