Orioles sweep hitting-impaired Twins; Liriano hurt

Twins lefthander Francisco Liriano left today's game after just two innings and 42 pitches. Alex Burnett has replaced for the third inning.

As soon as we learn of the reason why, we'll let you know.

Liriano gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks.

UPDATE: Liriano left the game with a left posterior shoulder strain. He will be evaluated tomorrow. Anthony Swarzak is warming up and is about to enter the game. So the Twins will need a starter for tomorrow.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, with the media assembled  in his office, called Baltimore manager Buck Showalter to alert him that his lineup was a work in progress.

Then manager has spent the morning counting healthy bodies. By about 10:45 a.,m., he was up to nine.

  • Catcher Joe Mauer has a sore neck and can't play. Mauer apparently hurt his neck while chasing a foul pop while playing first base recently.
  • Danny Valencia is not at the park today. He had a wisdom tooth removed.
  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka told Gardy that his back is doing better and he could come off the bench today and start tomorrow.
  • Michael Cuddyer has been the surprise this morning. He was smoked in the left wrist last night, and everyone thought his wrist was broken, based on the sound. Cuddyer was a ball of fire when he entered the clubhouse this morning. ``I don't just want to be available,'' Cuddyer to Gardenhire. ``I want to start,'' Cuddy had a MRI on his wrist this morning. If that comes back negative, expect Cuddyer to be in the startling lineup.
