TWINS UPDATE
The Twins are 9-10 since the All-Star break and after doing nothing before the nonwaiver trade deadline, they will hope for a boost Tuesday with Denard Span coming off the disabled list. They will be facing Santana, in his first start since his no-hitter Wednesday in Cleveland, but they won't have to face the other two members of the Angels' Big Three: Jered Weaver (14-5, 1.88 ERA) and Dan Haren (11-6, 2.89). ... The Twins went 1-2 against the Angels in late May at Target Field, blowing a 5-0, eighth-inning lead in Game 1 and losing to Haren in the series finale. In between those games was Anthony Swarzak's near no-hitter in Game 2 for a 1-0, 10-inning victory.
ANGELS UPDATE
Like the Twins, Los Angeles stood pat at Sunday's deadline. The Angels were looking for another bat and some bullpen help. They quietly have hung in the race, trailing the AL West-leading Rangers by two games. ... The Angels sent top prospect Mike Trout, 19, to Class AA on Monday after the center fielder batted .163 in 43 at-bats. ... The team had a day to cool down after an emotional 3-2 loss at Detroit on Sunday, when Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen both took long looks at home runs, angering Weaver, who was ejected after throwing a ball toward Alex Avila's head. Torii Hunter summed it up best: "It was all stupid; everybody was stupid. That was unprofessional on both sides."
