DEADLINE DEALING

Depending on if the Twins are rising or falling in the American League Central standings at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, they could be looking to add or subtract players. Here's a look at both scenarios and who might be part of any trades:

IF TWINS ARE BUYERS:

Chad Qualls, RHP, San Diego: The Twins have liked him in the past.

Mike Adams, RHP, San Diego: Has been dominant and won't come cheap.

Heath Bell, RHP, San Diego: Would be coveted by many teams, and expensive.

Kerry Wood, RHP, Cubs: The Cubs look ready to do business.

Koji Uehara, RHP, Orioles: Baltimore expected to listen to offers.

IF TWINS ARE SELLERS:

Michael Cuddyer, OF: High-character guy, and he has hit well in the postseason.

Joe Nathan, RHP: Reliever would have to prove he's reliable once again.

Jim Thome, DH: Would be a big threat off the bench.

Jason Kubel, OF: A dangerous hitter.

Francisco Liriano, LHP: Could be among the best of a weak starting pitching market.

Kevin Slowey, RHP: Regardless if it's in the majors or minors, each outing a showcase.

Matt Capps, RHP: Has value as a closer or set-up man.
