TWINS UPDATE

Rene Rivera's home run on Thursday was the first by a Twins catcher since Sept. 15 of last season. The Twins also were the last team in the majors to get a home run from a catcher. ... Last season was only the second year in which the Twins had a losing record in interleague play under Ron Gardenhire as they went 8-10. Overall, they have been interleague monsters, going 140-106, including a 64-40 record on the road. The last time the Twins visited Arizona, in 2006, they took two of three. ... As of now, there are no plans to put righthander Kevin Slowey in the starting rotation so he will remain a long reliever. No one is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation, and Gardenhire ruled out moving to a six-man rotation. Slowey might have to head to the minors to get a start, but there's been no talk of that recently. ... With three RBI on Wednesday and Thursday, Trevor Plouffe has driven in twice as many runs (eight) as other shortstops Alexi Casilla (three) and Matt Tolbert (one).

DIAMONDBACKS UPDATE

Third baseman Sean Burroughs has been called up from Class AAA Reno after batting .386 in 27 games. Yes, that Sean Burroughs. Burroughs, 30, last played in the majors in 2006 and was last in pro ball in 2007. He rededicated himself to the game and signed with Arizona in November. He replaces Melvin Mora, who is on bereavement leave. Mora was leading the Diamondbacks in May with a .250 batting average, which shows how things have been going for their offense. ... Third baseman Ryan Roberts, however, has a .404 on-base percentage this month. ... Arizona's coaching staff differs from the Twins in that it contains plenty of major league experience. Former Tigers manager Alan Trammell is the bench coach, Charles Nagy is the pitching coach, Matt Williams is the third base coach, Eric Young is the first base coach, and former Rockies and Cubs manager Don Baylor is the hitting coach.
