THE STEWART TRADE

A look at the July 16, 2003 trade between the Twins and Blue Jays.

THE TWINS RECEIVED

Shannon Stewart

Then: At age 29, Stewart was less than three months from free agency, making $6.2 million and batting .294.

Ended 2003: Batted .322 with a .384 on-base percentage for the Twins, finished fourth in the MVP voting and signed a three-year, $18 million deal with the Twins.

Now: At 32, he has bounced back with Oakland this year, batting .303.

David Gassner

Then: He came in December 2003 as the player to be named later, a 25-year-old soft-tossing lefthander.

Now: After going 1-0 with a 5.87 in two starts for the Twins in 2005, he's still pitching for Class AAA Rochester.

TORONTO RECEIVED

Bobby Kielty

Then: At age 26, he was making $325,000. Was batting .252 with a .370 on-base percentage for the Twins.

Ended 2003: Batted .233 with a .342 OBP for the Blue Jays, who traded him to Oakland that November for Ted Lilly.

Now: He has not developed into an everyday player. At age 30, he is batting .200 for the A's and is reportedly back on the trading block.
