CHICAGO - The Twins sent lefthander Carmen Cali back to Class AAA Rochester on Sunday, but they didn't announce who would be replacing him.
"I can't tell you what the other move is," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "I can tell you what we hope it is."
The Twins want to activate outfielder Rondell White in time for Thursday's game against Oakland. White, however, has been unable to play full games in the outfield during his minor league rehabilitation stint.
White played Friday for the Twins' Gulf Coast League rookie team, but he was held out of Saturday's game because of soreness, especially in his hamstrings. He was back in the lineup on Sunday as the DH, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
The Twins would like to see White play a series of games in the outfield before they activate him from the 15-day disabled list because he will probably split time between left field and designated hitter once he returns.
White has missed all but three games this season because of a torn right calf muscle.
Torii likes the Cell
A group of Chicago reporters swarmed Twins outfielder Torii Hunter before Sunday's game to grill him on his contract status and see if he has any interest is signing with the White Sox if he becomes a free agent after the season.
"I would consider Chicago," he said, "if, if, I become a free agent."
Hunter said he likes the city and thinks that the grass at U.S. Cellular Field is some of the finest in the league and produces the truest bounces.
"I like hitting here, too," he said.
Hunter told the reporters that he still hopes to remain with the Twins, but no talks have been scheduled.
Buehrle gets extension
Hunter said he kind of related to what White Sox lefthander Mark Buehrle, the subject of trade speculation, was going through this week. But that was before the White Sox and Buehrle agreed to a four-year, $56 million extension that was announced to fans immediately following Chicago's 6-3 victory over the Twins.
"That was pretty cool," Hunter said of the way the news was released.
It's not cool for the Twins in this respect: Buehrle, 19-10 in his career against the Twins, will be with the White Sox through 2011.
Buehrle reportedly didn't get the no-trade clause he wanted, but instead he got provisions to compensate, including a fifth year added to the contract if he is traded.
