KEY MATCHUP

ø Mark Teixeira homered in his last appearances against Carlos Silva and Johan Santana.

Twins update: Look for Twins manager Ron Gardenhire to give some of his regulars somewhat of a break this week. Gardenhire plans on using Lew Ford in center field once during the series, allowing Torii Hunter to DH one game or take a day off. Justin Morneau also will DH one game, with Jeff Cirillo taking over at first base. ... Joe Mauer likely will be out another week as the club makes sure his strained left quad is fully recovered. ... Ford is a career .356 hitter at Rangers Ballpark.

Rangers update: The Twins have been plagued by injuries this year, but the Rangers have had it even worse. Pitcher Kevin Millwood (hamstring), outfielders Frank Catalanotto (biceps tendinitis) and Brad Wilkerson (badly pulled hamstring) and third baseman Hank Blalock (shoulder) are on the disabled list. The Rangers wanted to call Marlon Byrd up from the minors to replace Wilkerson, but Byrd pulled a hamstring as Texas tried to call Class AAA Oklahoma to have him pulled from a game. So the Rangers had to call up outfielder Kevin Mahar, who started the year in Class AA.
