Here is the official release...

Joe Dziedzic, former NHL player, Univeristy of Minnesota Golden Gopher star, and Minnesota's 1990 Mr. Hockey is St. Paul Academy and Summit School's new hockey coach, the school announced on March 15, 2010.

Dziedzic is already familiar with SPA's hockey program, having served as interim coach for the varsity hockey team since January 2010. In his permanent role, he will have responsibility for both the varsity and junior varsity teams. "Coach Dziedzic is eager to work with students in our Middle School and begin to solidify the foundation of our hockey program," said Head of School Bryn Roberts. "I am thrilled that Joe is now a permanent part of our athletic program," Roberts added.

Dziedzic is a Twin Cities native with an impressive list of athletic and professional accomplishments. He was the state's Mr. Hockey in 1990 and played collegiate hockey for the University of Minnesota. The NHL Pittsburgh Penguins selected him as their second pick in the 1990 draft. For the next five years, Dziedzic played in the NHL, for the most part with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played alongside NHL Legends Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr. When injuries ended his professional career in 2000, he returned to Minneapolis, where he launched a very successful business as a hockey instructor and coach.
Joe Dziedzic Hockey has trained hundreds of players of all ages, from college to squirts, and Joe Dziedzic Hockey Camps are spread throughout the metro area.

"Coach Dziedzic possesses in abundance the qualities I seek in any teacher," said Roberts. "He is an acknowledged master of his chosen discipline--in this case, hockey--and he knows how to lead, instruct, and motivate students."
