My friend and colleague David La Vaque just checked in with some boys' hockey news. He reports that Benilde-St. Margaret's junior defenseman Patrick Daly has a broken fibula and is out for the year. Daly had a goal and nine assists this season for the 10th-ranked Red Knights.
The injury happened in the first period against Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday night.
Red Knights' coach Ken Pauly confirmed the news this morning.
In an e-mail, Pauly said: "Losing Patrick Daly is a huge hit. He's one of the state's best defensemen and he is a leader on our team. Clearly, this will impact our preparation. We will regroup, but it will change our approach in a big way. We'll miss him."
