Mahtomedi scored twice during a span of 1:07 early in the first half and cruised from there with a dominant defense to a 3-0 victory over Hermantown in the Class 1A boys' soccer state title match.
Ryan Redmond's 20-yard volley started the scoring nearly 14 minutes into the match; Bernardo Medellin added a 25-yard free kick goal barely a minute later.
Mahtomedi capped the scoring with less than a minute left in regulation and claimed its first-ever state title in boys' soccer. The Zephyrs came into the tournament unseeded, while Hermantown was the No. 3 seed.
