Orono jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and scored twice more early in the second half to earn a decisive 5-0 victory over Blake in the Class 1A girls' soccer state title match Thursday at the Metrodome.
Seventh-grader Sophie Babo led the way with three goals to finish the season with 25. Orono, which had previously appeared in five state tournaments, won its first-ever girls' soccer state title.
Blake, which played Orono to a 1-1 tie during the regular season, finished as the runner-up for the second time in three seasons.
