By John Millea

Welcome to this special edition of Guy Wears Blindfold and Predicts Football Games. I’m taking a long walk off a short dock this week, selecting 20 games that involve teams seeded No. 4 vs. No. 5 in section playoff openers.

Now, any knucklehead could take the Metro Top 10 teams and a bunch of other contests and pick the easy winners. Not this knucklehead. I am risking my reputation on 20 of the biggest head-scratchers on this week’s schedule. I’m picking all the 4 vs. 5 games in Class 5A and 4A, plus one select game from each of the other four classes.

My record last week was a sterling 16-4, which keeps me on a pretty nice roll. I went 11-9 in Week 2 and Week 6, 14-6 in Week 3 … but the mark has been between 15-5 and 17-3 every other time out of the gate.

Back to this week’s puzzlers…

One game is an instant rematch. That’s St. Cloud Tech at Moorhead. Tech beat the Spuds 20-19 last week in St. Cloud; this game will be in Moorhead. My secret formula tells me Tech will win another one-pointer.

Of these 20 games, I’m going with the No. 4 seed in 16 of them. That means I’m picking four No. 5 seeds to survive this round. They are Tech over Moorhead in 5A, Becker over Big Lake and Bemidji over Duluth East in 4A, and St. Paul Johnson over St. Anthony Village in 3A.

May the force be with me.
