CLASS 1A • SECTION 5
• ROGERS 2, PARK CENTER 2 (ROGERS WINS SHOOTOUT 4-2): It might have been the biggest game in team history, but Rogers coach Amy Cornelius wasn't able to watch her team rally from a two-goal deficit to beat Park Center and advance to the state tournament for the first time in team history.
Cornelius gave birth to her first child Tuesday, so she left the Royals in the capable hands of assistant coaches Leah Omann and Holly Sutton. "She had family in the stands watching and they were calling her and giving her updates," Omann said.
What they would have told her was that Park Center held a 2-0 lead midway through the second half, but Rogers pulled off a stunning rally, scoring two goals in a span of eight minutes to tie the score and send it into overtime. The game eventually went to a shootout, where the Royals' Jacqueline Zoubek stopped two of four shots while her teammates converted all four of their attempts, giving Rogers the victory.
"When we were down 2-0 with 25 minutes left, it was nerve-wracking," Omann said. "But our girls never stopped attacking and it paid off."

• CENTENNIAL 2, MOUNDS VIEW 0: Speed is what sets Jenna Roering apart and why, despite being just a freshman, she is a vital cog for the Centennial offense. Her wheels made all the difference for the Cougars as she ran through seams in the Mustangs defense twice in the first half, scoring both goals and sending Centennial to the state tournament for the first time in team history.

• ELK RIVER 1, MOORHEAD 0: Two weeks ago, things were looking sketchy for Elk River. The Elks concluded an otherwise superb regular season by going winless in their final four games, losing two and tying two. But they turned things around in the postseason.
When Ryan Ness broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 66th minute Friday, the Elks gained their first state tournament berth since 2002 and fifth overall by defeating the Spuds. Junior goalkeeper Joey Petrich recorded his seventh shutout of the season for Elk River.
