With the regular season behind us and the football playoffs beginning on Tuesday, it’s time to announce the final Metro Top 10. It’s very simple at the top, with undefeated Eden Prairie maintaining the grip on No. 1 that the Eagles have held since the preseason ranking. After that, there’s plenty of room for debate. Remember, this Top 10 is based on my observations and opinions and nothing else.

I have watched the top eight teams on this list in person this season. I’ve got Stillwater, Cretin-Derham Hall, Wayzata and Minnetonka in spots 2 through 5. I saw Stillwater beat Cretin, which is why the Ponies are ranked ahead of the Raiders.

I also saw Minnetonka beat Wayzata 3-0 in overtime in Week 8. Despite the Skippers’ victory, I have them one spot below Wayzata. That’s because Wayzata beat Minnetonka 28-0 earlier in the season and their second meeting was an absolute toss-up.

The second five is Blaine, Totino-Grace, Hopkins, Glencoe-Silver Lake and St. Thomas Academy.

For most of the season, the conventional wisdom – and I was on board with this – was that Eden Prairie, Wayzata and Cretin-Derham Hall were head and shoulders above the rest of the teams. Well, two of those three teams have now been beaten, and the postseason is shaping up to be something special.

Final Metro Top 10
1. Eden Prairie 8-0
2. Stillwater 8-0
3. Cretin-Derham Hall 7-1
4. Wayzata 7-1
5. Minnetonka 6-2
6. Blaine 7-1
7. Totino-Grace 8-0
8. Hopkins 6-2
9. Glencoe-Silver Lake 8-0
10. St. Thomas Academy 8-0
