GIRLS' SOCCER

Edina rebounds from 2008, wins section on Kuna kick • EDINA 1, EDEN PRAIRIE 0: Senior forward Jess Kuna's rebound goal 15 minutes into the second half propelled the Hornets past the Eagles for the Class 2A, Section 3 championship Thursday at Eden Prairie. A year ago, Edina lost 1-0 to Eden Prairie for the section title and failed to reach the state tournament for the first time since 2004.

• LAKEVILLE NORTH 1, ROCHESTER JOHN MARSHALL 0: The Panthers defense shined in their Class 2A, Section 1 championship victory. John Marshall recorded only four shots on goal. Senior midfielder Shannon Caraway's goal midway through the first half proved to be the difference.

• WOODBURY 6, WHITE BEAR LAKE 2: No. 1-ranked Woodbury stormed to a 5-1 first half lead in claiming the Class 2A, Section 4 championship. Six Royals scored, led by senior Kassey Kallman's goal and assist. It's the Royals' eighth consecutive state tournament berth.

• EAGAN 1, EASTVIEW 0: Senior midfielder Courtney Vallarelli scored in the first overtime as Eagan won the Class 2A, Section 3 championship. It's the Wildcats' first state trip since 2001.

BOYS' SOCCER

Raiders' big leap continues

• NORTHFIELD 2, LAKEVILLE NORTH 1: In their first season competing in Class 2A, the Raiders proved they belong with a convincing victory in the Section 1 championship. Senior Scott Gallagher scored both goals for Northfield, one in each half.

• BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 2, EDEN PRAIRIE 0: The Jaguars will get a chance to improve on last season's third-place finish after a shutout victory in the Class 2A, Section 2 final. Ryan Goddard scored both goals, and goaltender Peter Osborne recorded nine saves.

• WOODBURY 1, WHITE BEAR LAKE 0 (OT): Senior Pat Moore scored the game-winner with 1:30 remaining in the second overtime as the Royals claimed the Section 4 title.

• BLAINE 1, DULUTH EAST 0: The Bengals won when it counted most. Blaine dropped a mid-September3-0 match to the Greyhounds, but posted a shutout of its own in the 2A Section 7 finals rematch. With junior Chance Berg steady in goal, senior Stephen Ricks' goal at the midway point of the second half was all the Bengals needed.
