McKinley Wright always saw himself playing at the major conference level. After getting a release from his letter of intent to Dayton, the Champlin Park senior point guard will get a chance to play in the Pac-12 Conference next season.

Wright announced his commitment Friday to Colorado on Twitter. The 6-foot-1 Minnesota Mr. Basketball winner was visiting the campus in Boulder, Colo. this week.

Following Dayton coach Archie Miller's departure to take the Indiana job earlier this month, Wright reopened his recruitment and received a release from the Flyers. He heard from schools such as Baylor, Butler, Tennessee and Clemson.

Wright averaged 22.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.8 assists for Champlin Park this season, while earning Star Tribune All-Metro Player of the Year honors. He led his high school team to the Class 4A state title game before falling to Apple Valley.

The Gophers contacted Wright initially, but their extra scholarship for the 2017 class was filled by Louisville 7-foot transfer Max Stockman. Richard Pitino already signed four-star point guard Isaiah Washington and three-star shooting guard Jamir Harris for next season.
