The best track and field athletes in Minnesota are expected to convene at Hamline's Klas Field Friday for the 12th annual Hamline Elite Meet.

The meet earns its reputation as the most notable meet of the regular season by living up to its name. This is the opposite of the True Team meet. Only the best need apply. In fact, proof of exceptional result from a meet this season is needed to qualify.

In addition to the congregation of high school track and field superstars, what makes the Elite Meet fun for spectators is the lack of qualifying races. With the exception of the 100 meter dash, all races are finals. No sitting around through prelims, waiting for the main event.

Applications for the meet are still being accepted, so the final lineup will not be released until Thursday, but the meet is always a highlight of the all-too-brief track and field season, rivaling the state meet for quality.
