The Columbia Heights boys' basketball team had opportunities to upset host Class 4A, No. 10 Park Center on Friday night. However, the Pirates scored the game's final seven points in overtime to win 79-75.
Quentin Hardrict made a pair of free throws to give the Hylanders a 70-68 lead with 12.1 seconds left in regulation, but Khari Broadway made a layup to send the game to OT.
Columbia Heights junior Deaundra Roberson scored 29 points to lead all scorers.
St. Paul Highland Park 69, Fridley 65: Dreem Kelly-Jabbar and Victor Minefee each scored 22 points to lead the Scots to a victory over the host Tigers. Amitri Collins-Westlund added 13 points for Highland Park. Five Fridley players scored in double figures, with Tirik Reeves scoring 13 points to lead the way.
Richfield 88, Simley 79 (OT): Richfield rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Simley in overtime. Devin Wade-Henderson led Richfield with 22 points. Jason Stewart had 15 points, Levonte Carslile had 12, Davis Miles had 11 and Antonio Maddox had 10 for Richfield. Jake Binley led Simley with 27 points and DeAndre Smith had 26.
Girls' basketball
Annandale 54, Delano 53: The Class 2A, No. 9 Cardinals erased a six-point halftime deficit to defeat the host Tigers. Allie Spaulding led the Cardinals with 17 points. Hannah Purcell had 15 points and Kamryn D'Heilly had 12 for the Cardinals. Erin Norling led the Tigers with 24 points and Madeline Bersie had 10.
Woodbury 72, Apple Valley 69: Rachel Hakes scored 21 points in leading the host Royals to an upset of the Class 2A, No. 5 Eagles. Cecile Kieger had 20 points and Ellie Kreibich and Solape Amusan had 10 each for Woodbury. Apple Valley's Lyndsey Robson led all scorers with 25 points. Megan Baer scored 11 points and Sara Teske 10.
Edina 49, Wayzata 37: Olivia Coughlin finished with 15 points to lead the Class 4A, No. 7 Hornets past the visiting 4A, No. 6 Trojans. Annika Jank scored 14 points for Edina. Jasmine Smiley led the Trojans with 11 points.
Burnsville 73, Hastings 70: Five Blaze players finished in double-figure scoring in their victory over the Raiders. Emma Fee scored 17 points, Megan Diggan had 13, Zhane Thompson and Kristen Fredericks had 12 each and Dakota Cox had 10 for Burnsville, which trailed by two points at halftime. Krystal Carlson led the Raiders with 23 points. Mallory Brake had 19 and Haylee Yaeger had 12.
Boys' hockey
South St. Paul 6, Eveleth-Gilbert 4: Matthew Gellerman had four goals and two assists and the Packers scored five goals in the third period to rally past the host Golden Bears. Jacob Toensing stopped 31 shots for South St. Paul.
Girls' hockey
Cambridge-Isanti 3, Princeton 2: Alyson Niebur scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Bluejackets to a victory over the visiting Class 1A, No. 13 Tigers. Ashley Schintz finished with a goal and an assist and goaltender Claire Belkholm stopped 21 shots for Cambridge-Isanti. Kenzie Skuza and Kara Schramel scored Princeton's goals.
Eden Prairie 2, Elk River/Zimmerman 0: Naomi Rogge scored a pair of goals and Alexa Dobchuk stopped 29 shots to lead the Class 2A, No. 3 Eagles past the host Class 2A, No. 6 Elks. Megan Jung stopped 26 shots in goal for Elk River.
Hill-Murray 4, South St. Paul 0: The Class 2A, No. 5 Pioneers used four goal scorers to defeat the host Class 1A, No. 16 Packers. Taylor Wemple led Hill-Murray with a goal and an assist. Kaity McKenzie stopped 38 shots for South St. Paul in a losing effort.
