HOPKINS 55, MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH 37: The Royals didn't waste any time making a statement for the 2008-09 season. Class 4A No. 3 Hopkins limited No. 1 Minneapolis South to 11 first-half points en route to the West bracket championship Saturday in the Pat Paterson Invitational at Hamline. Senior foward Kara Elofson had 15 points for the Royals, who opened a 38-11 lead at halftime. Senior guard Tayler Hill had a game-high 29 points for Minneapolis South.
CENTENNIAL 68, ST. PAUL CENTRAL 56: Cougars senior forward Bridget Schuneman was too much for the Minutemen. Schuneman scored 25 points, leading Class 4A No. 2 Centennial past No. 5 St. Paul Central in the finals of the East bracket in the Pat Paterson Invitational. Theairra Taylor had 19 points for St. Paul Central.
CHAMPLIN PARK 67, RED WING 57: Jazmine Darden scored 20 points as the Rebels gradually pulled away from the host Wingers in the championship of the Red Wing Tip-off Tournament.
MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 62, SUPERIOR (WIS.) 35: Sophomore center Katelyn Adams made 10 of 14 shots en route to a 23-point performance, leading the Redhawks past Superior in the second round of the Hudson (Wis.) Tip-off Classic. Minnehaha Academy built a 31-14 halftime lead.
EDEN PRAIRIE 67, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 53: The Eagles scored 38 second-half points to break open a close game and defeat the Jaguars in the Lake Conference. Michelle Tobin paced Eden Prairie with 21 points.
EAGAN 6, LAKEVILLE NORTH 3: Senior Lisa Berreman scored the first goals on the power play, leading the Wildcats past the Panthers in the Lake Conference. Junior Haley Juricko also had two goals for Eagan.
VISITATION/ST. PAUL ACADEMY 3, SOUTH ST. PAUL 0: Freshman forward Maggie Blaisdell opened and closed the scoring in Visitation/St. Paul Academy's shutout over the Packers in the championship of the Spartan Cup. Eighth-grade goalie Cory Russell stopped 25 shots.
DELANO 3, BLAKE 1: Senior forward Seth Klason scored two goals 49 seconds apart in the third period, lifting the Tigers past the Bears in the second round of the Bob Nelson Tournament. Teammate sophomore forward Tyler Heinonen tied it 1 minute, 16 seconds into the third period.
