Visitation has a chance to set a modern-era record this weekend.
No team since the MSHSL reinstituted the girls' state meet in 1975 has won four team championships in a row. Visitation, which has won the past three Class 1A team titles, has that opportunity.
The Blazers, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A all season, have the advantage of having 20 entrants in the Class 1A field, the most of any team. They are led by senior Meghan Weiss, who is aiming for her third state championships in the 100 and 200 freestyles, and freshman Olivia McNeely, who has won the past two 100 breaststroke titles.
Class 2A: Defending champs face challengersMaple Grove is back, hoping to win its second consecutive title. Expect the Crimson, which won last year without the benefit of an individual champion, to be challenged by Stillwater, Burnsville, Edina and Cretin-Derham Hall.
Seven of the nine individual events have 2007 champions back to defend their titles, including Lauren Weis of Cretin-Derham Hall, who set state meet records last year in winning the 200 and 500 freestyles.
