A high school the size of Jordan is lucky to have one Division I athlete, much less three.
The three -- T.J. Oakes (baseball), Brittany Chambers (basketball) and Leah Dietel (basketball) -- are also the children of three coaches. Oakes is the son of Gophers pitching coach Todd Oakes, Chambers is the daughter of Jordan volleyball coach Colleen Chambers and Dietel is the daughter of Jordan boys' basketball coach Greg Dietel.
Oakes will play for his father in the future, signing a letter-of-intent with the Gophers. Chambers and Dietel tendered with Kansas State and South Dakota State, respectively.
"One of the neat things with all three of them is they are all very talented young people," Greg Dietel said. Oakes also plays for him in the winter. "They are very good students as well. They not only excel on the courts and fields, but also in the classroom."
The trio also carry a coach's mentality to their prep teams, according to Greg Dietel. His daughter and Chambers led Jordan to the Class 2A volleyball championship earlier this month.
"They are very intelligent athletes," Greg Dietel said. "They are all students of the game."
Dominating TigersFarmington's girls' hockey team turned in a one-sided performance Saturday.
The Tigers outshot Rochester Century 77-8 in an 8-0 nonconference victory. They recorded 33 shots on net in a five-goal first period in which they scored three goals in a 27-second span.
Sophomore Hannah Alexander led the onslaught with two goals and three assists.
Etc.• Juniors Catie Chang of Burnsville and Hailey Campbell of Lakeville South each took first place in two individual events in the Section 2 swimming meet held Friday at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake.
Chang won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 8.34 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:05.75. Campbell won the 100 freestyle in 52.87 and the 100 backstroke in 58.30.
The state meet will get underway Thursday, with the diving preliminaries at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
