Roseville 21, White Bear Lake 6: Raiders pull off another surprise

Last update: October 25, 2008 - 11:44 PM

Roseville's remarkable postseason continued Saturday night as the Raiders, the No. 7 seed in Section 2, 5A, upset White Bear Lake 21-6 to advance to Friday's championship game against Mounds View.

Roseville struggled to a 1-7 regular season record. But the Raiders had an ace in the hole in running back Anthony Kablan, who was hampered by ankle and knee injuries during the regular season.

But he's healthy now and it showed Saturday. Kablan rushed 30 times for 261 yards and two touchdowns, giving him an astonishing 535 yards rushing in two playoff games.

"He's the healthiest he's been all season," Roseville coach Chris Simdorn said. "He's got more explosiveness and quickness in his step."

So now the Raiders are officially the surprise of the postseason.

"It was a long, frustrating regular season," Simdorn said. "But if you would have told me we'd get the chance to play for the section championship, I'd say I'd take it."
