Osseo went into Saturday's Class 5A, Section 5 football semifinal against Champlin Park hoping to deliver some payback.
Instead, the Orioles delved much deeper into debt.
Second-seeded Champlin Park, which upset the Orioles in last year's section playoffs and edged them by a point in the final game of the regular season, routed third-seeded Osseo this time around 47-16.
"Hats off to Champlin Park," Osseo coach Derrin Lamker said. "They manhandled us."
Brandon Marquardt, who scorched Osseo for nearly 200 yards in their earlier meeting this season, had three touchdown runs in the first half Saturday, including a 74-yard scamper. Marquardt finished with 179 yards on 25 carries, and quarterback Ben Duncan had 16 carries for 158 yards and another three scores.
"We didn't think we would come out and win like this," Duncan said.
Champlin Park also had a field goal, a safety on a punt block, a two-point conversion and a regular extra point in scoring just about every way imaginable on the way to a 26-0 halftime lead.
The second half was more of the same. Duncan ran for a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to push the lead midway through the third to 40-0 -- a score few people could have seen coming.
The Rebels will face top-seeded Wayzata on Friday with a trip to the state tournament on the line. It's a rematch of last year's section final, won 23-21 by Wayzata.
"We want that one bad," Duncan said.
