Blair Townsend made the difference for Coon Rapids against Osseo.

Last update: October 11, 2008 - 8:50 AM

Coon Rapids means business.

Winners of four in a row, the Cardinals on Friday pulled out a 45-20 road victory over defending Northwest Suburban champion Osseo.

Quarterback Blair Townsend was the difference. He had touchdown runs of 15 and 14 yards in the third quarter and a hand in five total scores. Coon Rapids (5-2) led 24-14 at the half after both teams sputtered on offense in the early going.

The teams combined for three punts and a fumble on the game's first four possessions. But then the game got entertaining.

Tate Christopherson got the first of his three 1-yard touchdown runs with 2 minutes, 2 seconds left in the first quarter, giving Osseo (5-2) the lead. On the first play of the second quarter, Cardinals running back Joe Novak tied the score when he hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Townsend.

The highlight of the first 24 minutes was a Townsend to Jarrad Zimmel screen pass that went 59 yards for a score with 1:18 to play, giving Coon Rapids a 10-point lead.

"We didn't play so well this week," Osseo coach Derrin Lamker said. "We have to be able to control the ball better."
